About

Anchor 1

Architecture is modestly defined as the practice of designing and building structures.  However, at The Everglades Architecture Group, and to our clients, it is much more.  Architecture is an amorphous art that must take into consideration and encompass a multitude of differing and ever changing conditions.  We do not consider a project successful until all of the many elemental design forces are aligned accordingly.  We take very seriously our responsibility of changing the face of our planet in a manner that takes into consideration climate, location, context, overall goals of the project and budget.  Architecture is not merely a client and a building, it is a vast array of conditions that, when properly aligned, gives a sense which will lead the observer to come to the realization that the project was always meant to be; and we at The Everglades Architecture Group feel that we were fortunate enough to be a small part in fulfilling the destiny of that location.

The Everglades Architecture Group (EAG) is honored to provide pro-bono architectural and engineering services for the "Girlfriends 4 Girlfriends" organization pompano house. The project includes 4 living units for members of the charity who have fled lives of domestic violence.

Many charities throughout South Florida take in victims of domestic violence in a dormitory style community that sometimes lacks personalization and character of living at home. These apartment style units allow for each victim to bring along with them their children to start their lives in a safe atmosphere away from their abusers. This is the type of family style living that allows women to get back on their feet and provide for their children without relying on the shackles of an abusive relationship. Most victims are continuously abused because they cannot get away from their abusers. The women rely on their abusers as sources of income who provided roofs over their heads. Many of these women are so victimized into believing they cannot lead a life on their own. Girlfriends 4 Girlfriends (part of the Miami Rescue Mission) provides safe housing for women and their children to start a life of their own.

This venture will kick off the first non-for-profit project for the Everglades Architecture Group's non-for-profit division. The goal for EAG in the future will be to provide free design and engineering services to South Florida Charities. "Charities are already running on difficult budgets, fundraising for necessary projects can often be very competitive. We want to try to provide free services to charities so that the funds that are donated to them [the charities] go to the programs and not towards capital expenditures, permitting, or construction. By providing services at gratis we ensure we are saving the charity thousands of dollars that can be directed to the programs that matter," says Jessica Dornblaser of the Everglades Architecture Group. "We need to be a bit selective in choosing which charities we help in 2016 as we start this non-for-profit wing of our firm. Once we have more resources developed specifically to assist in the design services we can help more charities in the future. Our goal is to be able to help with land acquisitions, designing a new wing for an existing charity, completing a tenant improvement for administration offices, or like the Girlfriends 4 Girlfriends house a simple repair permit set of drawings to bring the building up to code. With our industry connections we are hoping to get materials and labor donated for portions of the construction."
